When Winter Turns to Fire
Inspired by the catastrophic fires occurring in greater frequency within Alaska, “When Winter Turns to Fire” seeks to visualize not only the melting of arctic ice, but the burning of the forestry where ice used to reside. The spoken narrative is meant to contextualize what it might feel like to be born into the Alaskan wilderness when it was covered in ice, and grow up into a very different environment, stricken with annual forest fires that degrade the countryside you once knew.
This piece was created by filming textures and colors to convey the melting of ice, and the burning of fires. The videos were then projection mapped onto a structure created from cardboard boxes.
